Movie Night

We realize we're late to the party on this one, but we recently saw "All Things Must Pass," the documentary tracing the history of Tower Records and can't recommend it highly enough. If you're a fan of music, Los Angeles, the entertainment biz, cheeky hi-jinks, etc. we thing you'll love it too.

Check out the trailer here:

Today's Free Gift with Purchase: a $60,000 Warhol!

in the wild world of vintage, we've all been there for the add-on box of randoms that turns out to be more valuable than the item we actually sought to purchase. But this one takes the cake!

Jezebel reports:

Some of us just can’t resist a promising pile of junk. Every now and then it pays off—for instance, in the case of a woman who found herself in possession of a Warhol estimated to be worth at least $60,000.

The story goes that a seller on NYC's Lower East Side threw in an extra box of random stuff as part of the $200 asking price for a couch. The lucky buyer discovered the treasure -- depicting male genitalia in classic Warhol style -- and it's now for sale online:. (link is NSFW, BTW).

As described in the listing:

“This original silkscreen on canvas reveals the sensual forms of the male pelvis and hips in washes of pink, green, and aqua blue,” making it “a unique emblem from the Pop master’s oeuvre.”

We'd tell you more, but we're feeling a shopping run coming on...

Our Broadcast Debut!

The NBC Everywhere App commercial that was shot earlier this year at inretrospect is now running. See if you can spot us:

We had a blast during our day of filming, and we learned a ton about the process. As you'll see, we also learned that -- thank goodness --  we have an extra strong front window! The crew was professional and efficient and the actors were friendly and fun.

It was a great experience and we can't wait to do it again. Seriously, If you or anyone you know is in the location biz and looking for an adaptable, easily transformable space with accommodating owners for a shoot, by all means give us a call.

And guess what? Our friends at Portfolio got in on the fun as well:

Pretty cool, right?

Until we see you again on the big screen,

Your intretrospect pals

Retro Holiday Specials

It's the most wonderful time of the year - the season for holiday TV programming! We're kicking things off with a bit of a hidden gem: The Paul Lynde Halloween special from 1976, featuring a star-studded time capsule of seventies celebrities.

Not that Paul Lynde couldn't carry the full 60 minutes on his dialed-to-11 brand of camp alone. But we're talking Betty White, Donny & Marie Osmond, Florence Henderson, Kiss, and more.  It's well worth a watch as you dig through the leftover candy this evening.

Found this rare gem a little while ago and thought it should be shared! The Paul Lynde Halloween Special is a Halloween-themed television special starring Paul Lynde broadcast October 29, 1976 on ABC. It featured guest stars Margaret Hamilton in her first reprisal of her role as The Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz.

Lovely Letterpress, Long Beach-style -- or -- Greeting Card Superstar!

We're such fans of Richele Silva and her line of clever & engaging letterpress cards, Richie Designs. We've carried them in-store since almost Day 1, and they have always been a huge hit with our customers. And we can't recall too many occasions for which ourselevs needed to look elsewhere for just the right card.

She describes her cards as "Classically Quirky Greetings". From her blog (which you should start following immediately!): "Our greetings serve multiple purposes, encouragement to a friend, a quirky take on something funny. Richele designs for needs that come up naturally, often turning real life conversations into her greeting sentiments." All true, and all delightfully manifested in her work.

And we're not the only ones smitten. Richele has been featured on notable sites such as The Zoe Report, Brides Magazine, Cool Hunting, Daily Candy Wedding Guide, and Oh So Beautiful Paper.

Here is one of our very favorites from the line. Next time you're in, we invite you to enjoy our entire selection.
